Eastham Raised Stone Patio - The request of homeowner to give stone patio area surrounded with larger trees with privacy living fence with large evergreens, split-level raised patio and lower seating area. Stone steps and boulder retaining wall. Finished with native vegetation and pea stone and shells as mulch.

Homeowners contacting Little Landscapes for entire yard project. Started with stone patio with Umbria stone from India. Tumble blue stone walkways around the side of house. Backyard blue stone kit patio was laid after Elk Mountain custom raised stone wall was installed. Out front we built a tumble blue stone walkway leading you to front door steps that are custom granite steps and kit form. New front lawn. Unique foundation plantings all around the property.

Walking from driveway level to front door on blue stone steps, I was contacted to help retain front area and noticed there was no easy way to front door so I gave this suggestion and it came out great!  Yet another 'timeless' design!  The corner stone is very special, to have that angle just right, most amazing how this came together so well.  Addition of some fun 'focal point' plants combined with native vegetation as well.  Out front the shell garden with a few boulders retains this area much better when it rains.  Use of native stones for retaining walls in this project allowed us to recycle and reuse here nicely.

Homeowners reached out with request to fix steps up to front door, Jean had fallen on them.  I removed rotten wood and added granite custom steps.  Then stone vaneer was placed on existing green concrete walls and new lights for guests to have a safe walk to and from front door of home.  Also we redid their existing driveway giving this yard an updated finish with lights from start to finish guiding visitors in the night.  Do you like this combination of natures colors combined together?  It is even better in person!

Harwichport Stone Patio Design

Stone patios, upper and lower patio areas with granite steps in between bringing you from one side out back to the other.   The front granite door step weighs 3,500 pounds, went in comfortably.  The outdoor shower stall and new fence behind were added.  This was a great winter job design and install from removal of rotten wood to addition of Black Irish 2x3 patio stones, new driveway lined in cobblestones and beyond.

Brewster Project

Homeowner Jim reached out with request to build a vegetable garden out front consisting of two raised beds plus a stone patio out back with small fit pit at end. Laura took Jim to choose stones he liked and we custom created this for him to grow food to share with his loved ones.  The stone patio out back we lined in cobblestones to remain stable over time.  He grew herbs and flowers and vegetables and enjoyed the whole process from start to finish.  This is one of my favorite projects to date due to the love we grew throughout this job.

Meadowscaping

Meadowscaping is a term for creating a meadow like feel with vegetation that naturally like the conditions on your land.  There are many plants to choose from in our zone luckily and once established will bring joy for seasons of time.  See photos to get an idea of colors and textures that you may like!  Perennials can be full and flowering from spring through fall and up again next year.  

Ponds

Adding a sound element to your outdoor living space means entertainment all the time!  With or without fish to enjoy, your yard comes alive!  We design, build, install and maintain for you to enjoy.  In wintertime all water elements are turned off, we blow out the lines and let any fish and plants hibernate as they would in nature.  Add lights for evening and night time enjoyment!

You can have green lawns without the use of chemicals, see below photos for reassurance.  We top dress in May and October with an inch of leaf compost, giving what grass consumes in nature and look, it's green!  We recommend watering an inch a week, mowing twice a month at three inches for best root growth. The use of nitrogen and phosphorus is not needed so it usually runs-off causing harm to ponds and oceans.  Micoryzomes are introduced and worm castings are used as good food sources for grass types here.  You'll see photos of great clover lawns, they are thick and happy and real easy to maintain!  White clover grows to six inches in height then flowers feeding native pollinators.  No need to mow clover lawns and they don't need much water after established.  Inquire within for more information about clover lawns, it's the latest 'craze' and it is working nicely!

Barnstable Project

Homeowner reached out to me with a problem area on a slope not able to grow grass. I created a stone structure out of the area with a  'sunny patio' and bluestone steps leading you down to the 'shade patio' and up other side to sunken hot tub area when trees grew in became private with outlook onto a big lake.  This was a summertime of creative fun and over time successful alternative to a grass lawn.

We can have four seasons of entertainment with a design filled with seasonal color year round here!  Do you like textures?  It is fun to layer and create 'meadowscaping' on Cape Cod.

Clover Lawns

Please google Dutch White Clover and learn how spectacular this ground cover is!  Luckily it likes it here on Cape Cod!  We have been installing clover lawns for years successfully.  They are 'nitrogen fixators' and only grow to 6 inches in height and flower white feeding pollinators.  You can mow 3 times a year if you'd like.  It doesn't require much water once it is established and no fertilizer needed!  So mow less, water less, feed less and get more with clover lawns!  :)


Clients requests flowerscaping so I gave native vegetation ideas mixed with their favorite colors and see what beauty came alive!

Outdoor shower design and creation by Littlefield Landscapes to mirror the angles of the home.  Native plants thrive happily around stone work here.  It is calming to walk along this created outdoor space.

Helen's front yard was full of stumps when she invited me over to give her a design.  We removed root systems, added new soil and I shopped for her bringing colors and textures she liked once I went over choices with her.  I added a few native natural stones for a edge that will last when these perennials fill in.  She had more fun watering and watching her new 'plant babies' grow up this summer, it was  a delight to create this for her and listen to her enjoy as new flowers bloomed.

Winter Interest

Don't forget to add some winter interest to your property to bring a bit of summer back to life when the sun is out and the wind is down, you can go out and rock in a rocking chair or put up a hammock for an afternoon of quiet reading.  Lights help keep the days longer and adding stones to sit upon or garden angels for delight are an easy way to keep some entertainment alive all winter long.  Adding textures of vegetation elements with an uplight bring delight from inside your home for guests and neighbors to enjoy.

About Us - Laura Littlefield Kelley

Laura Kelley has been an organic horticulturist since 1992 creating beauty with nature.

She is the 11th generation of Kelley’s born & raised in North Side East Dennis. She blends old theories with new techniques nicely allowing for the best balance possible. She continues to educate herself with the latest training in our changing times. She grew up on a self-sustaining sheep farm in Dennis and now resides in North Eastham designing sustainable landscapes throughout Cape Cod.

“I was organic before organic became organic!” I always say. “There’s something magical about helping plants grow, for they heal us and help us survive. Being a steward of our circle of life is my greatest pleasure & purpose. There is a way to create an organic protocol for all land types to allow your land to sustain itself. Orleans Granite Stone Steps

This Orleans homeowner reached out to Laura of Littlefield Landscapes to design and install stones he collected throughout the state.  With the help of an excavation company who's worked with her for over 15 years, one stone at a time a front walkway and walk from side of home to outback was set.  Unfortunately, none of the stones given were even in any direction and the goal of walking up a 6 inch in height steps from driveway to home was very hard to accomplish.  Laura chose each stone, one at a time, first one set at the bottom, and with the use of a tape measure over and over, on all sides of each stone, the front walkway and side steps to out back became comfortable to go up and down. 

To our surprise, along the front walk, the last stone put in place fit to less than an 1/8th of an inch.  I knew the height from bottom to top and wanted to add a curve but it was up to the shape of each stone to make the correct distance, and it came together nicely, miraculously actually!  What an accomplishment, what a feeling when elements come together and all parties involved appreciate efforts that will be enjoyed for generations.  This project was fun to see how it evolved and may all those who walk upon these stones know the details it took to create such beauty  ~
